Pegasystems offers two methodologies—Pega BPM (business process management) and Scrum—that you can use to manage application development projects. Both methodologies provide a process framework that is adaptable. You can blend usage of these methodologies with the project management approach of your organization.
These methodologies are designed to work with Direct Capture of Objectives (DCO) capabilities and integrate with the Project Management Framework (PMF) and Test Management Framework (TMF). Methodologies are referenced in application and specification rules, the New Application wizard, the Sizing wizard and spreadsheet, and the Application Document wizard.
Similar in approach to the Rational Unified Process (RUP), Pega BPM is an implementation methodology that takes an iterative development approach that is divided into five phases: Business Value Assessment (BVA), conception, elaboration, construction, and transition. Pega BPM is designed to be flexible so that your implementation team can adapt the methodology to projects of any size.
Specifications in Pega BPM are commonly called use cases.
Scrum in Pega 7 Platform leverages DCO tools, management frameworks, and Pega processes. Scrum is an agile methodology with iterative development accomplished in very short cycles, or sprints.
Stakeholders gather and organize information into a product backlog by using the Project Management Framework (PMF). PMF reflects the initial functionality that will be delivered, the sprint time lines, and the expected business value. PMF integration is most effective with a Scrum methodology, and you can maintain a mapping of acceptance criteria.
Specifications in Scrum are commonly called user stories.
